“Getting my MSW from the Sandler School of Social Work at FAU is one of the best decisions I have made. Undoubtedly, I will continue to recommend the MSW program to friends and colleagues. The faculty’s efforts and dedication make the program outstanding.”
– Maria Quezada
Master of Social Work
Thank you for your interest in our Master of Social Work (MSW) program at Florida Atlantic University. The mission of the MSW program is to educate competent and compassionate social workers for advanced clinical social work practice with children, adolescents, adults, elders, couples, families and groups. MSW graduates possess critical thinking skills and engage in evidence-based clinical practice, with a deep respect for human diversity and strengths and with a desire to continue lifelong learning and professional development.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Social Work is one of the fastest growing careers in the U.S. Since its inception in 2000, our MSW program has continued to grow and is ranked among the nation's top master's programs by U.S. News & World Report.
Our MSW program can be completed in two, three, or four years for students whose bachelor’s degree is in a discipline other than social work. We also offer a two, three, four, or five semester Advanced Standing program for students who have achieved a solid foundation in social work from an accredited Bachelor of Social Work program within the last five years.
Our MSW courses are offered on our Boca Raton and Davie campus, with some courses available online. Students come from a broad range of backgrounds, representing a variety of undergraduate majors and universities. Our graduates are eligible to apply for licensure as clinical social workers in Florida and elsewhere. They go into a variety of fields including family services, child welfare, gerontology, public policy, domestic violence, mental health, research and evaluation, addictions, and criminal justice.
The MSW program uses a year-round, rolling admissions process for both the traditional and advanced standing tracks!
- Spring semester, January start: Applications due October 1
- Summer semester, May start: Applications due February 1
- Fall semester, August start: Applications due May 1
- All field placements begin in the Fall semester
“Prior to graduation, I had six job offers and have accepted a position. I feel prepared to start this journey because of the courses and internship opportunities I had as an MSW student.”
– Caidin Smith, MSW alumnus
